Subir Karmakar
Solicitor Advocate (Higher Courts Civil)
Subir Karmakar (LL.M London) is a Solicitor Advocate (Higher Courts Civil) having rights of audience to appear in the higher civil courts in England and Wales. He qualified as a Barrister in 1984 and became a Solicitor in 1991.
Before joining Balsara & Co. Subir worked as a partner in the well known law firms Waterson Hicks and Seddons.
Subir specialises in commercial dispute resolution including international arbitrations and litigation involving metals, commodities, shipping, insurance, banking and joint venture and company disputes.
He dealt with arbitrations conducted under the auspices of FOSFA, GAFTA, LME, IGPA, RSA, ICC, LCIA, LMAA and the Swedish Chamber of Commerce. He has also dealt with arbitration applications made to the Commercial Court in London arising from arbitrations.
He also dealt with large commercial claims in the London High Court involving cross-border fraud, letters of credit and guarantees, insolvency, disputes involving commodities and shipping, insurance claims, share-holder disputes, derivative actions and proceedings to disqualify directors.
Currently he is acting for clients pursuing very large claims against sovereign states under Bilateral Investment treaties. He has and would be pleased to be able to obtain third party funding with adequate insurance cover to pursue merited claims if necessary.
